Led by an uncredited Taylor Lautner ( The Twilight Saga), a tribe of tough-talking, testosterone-fuelled frat guys start a fight with the aging protagonists, purely to underscore the prevailing “woe is us, we’re getting old” attitude. The men – missing Schneider, but with the addition of Nick Swardson ( A Haunted House) as the new human punchline – bicker with spouses that include Salma Hayek ( Savages), Maria Bello ( Abduction) and Maya Rudolph ( The Way, Way Back), and bully their kids into better fitting their expectations.
Grown ups 2 reviews series#
For the cartoonish film’s 101-minute running time, nothing approaching a narrative can be sighted instead, the feature strings together a series of silly, nostalgia-steeped gags, mostly focused upon how cumbersome it is to have a wife, kids, and other markers of mature adulthood. To say that this sequel constructs its plot around preparations for the party is misleading, and gives credit where none is due. Grown Ups 2 follows the events of that one day, commencing with a deer intruding upon a suburban home, and ending with toilet jokes in the bedroom. For reasons no more complex than mere desire on the eve of summer, they decide to throw a get-together at Lenny’s luxurious house. Each is a bit older, a bit more immersed in their middle-age routine, and still yearning for times long past of freedom, fun, and few commitments. Though ringleader Lenny Feder (Sandler) has returned to live in the same New England hometown populated by his underachieving best buddies, little has changed for the central cohort. Now, three years later, Grown Ups 2 reunites the majority of the gang for another flimsy exercise in puerile amusement. For reasons of commercial profit, rather than acclaim, a follow-up was soon mooted. Friends, frequent co-stars and fellow Saturday Night Live alum Adam Sandler ( That’s My Boy), Kevin James ( Here Comes the Boom), Chris Rock ( What to Expect When You’re Expecting), David Spade ( Jack and Jill) and Rob Schneider ( InAPPropriate Comedy) combined for an effort low on plot but high on inane antics, rather fittingly playing long-term pals attempting to re-live their glory years.
